This simple block-play is great for building your child's mathematical thinking skills

Skills and benefits:

  • Spatial awareness
  • Problem solving
  • Fine motor development
  • Communication skills

What you'll need:

  • 2 sets of 4-6 identical blocks. Lego or Duplo work well, but any construction set is suitable.

What to do:

  1. Using one set of the blocks, create a small structure and present it to your child to copy.
  2. Once the child has completed it, have them make something for you to then copy.
  3. Increase the challenge by building behind a barrier and using positional language (next to, beside, above, on top of) to guide your child to build their copy.
  4. Increase the amount of blocks in each set for even more of a challenge!
