By drawing a self-portrait, children can enhance their understanding of who they are, their identity, emotions and express how they see themselves.

What you’ll need:

  • Coloured pencils
  • Paper
  • Mirror
What to do:

  1. Set up a table with paper and pencils in front of a mirror.

  2. Begin by drawing yourself by looking at the mirror, as an example for your child. Encourage your child to follow along and draw their own portrait.

  3. Allow your child to draw themselves autonomously.

  4. After the drawing, engage in a discussion about how the child is feeling and doing in the picture and encourage your child to reflect on the reasons behind these feelings.
