Make your own Christmas tree with loose parts
Children can create their very own Christmas tree using loose parts and their imaginations in this fun festive activity while gaining new skills.
Skills and benefits:
- Fine motor skills
- Drawing skills
- Imagination and creativity
- Mathematical and logical skills
- Focus, attention, patience
What you’ll need:
- Table or flat surface
- Masking tape or Christmas-themed sticky tape
- Any loose parts of your choice e.g. cubes, thread, beads and other small trinkets. Preferably in Christmas colours such as red/green, gold/silver. Tip: find things from around your home that can be recycled to save and stay sustainable e.g. aluminium foil or paddle pop sticks.
- Basket(s) and/or tray(s) to hold and separate any loose parts and trinkets you are using.
What to do:
-
On the table or flat surface, use your masking/sticky tape to make the shape of a Christmas tree. Start with a large triangle at the bottom, followed by a slightly smaller one and top with a smaller triangle.
-
Lay out and arrange all your loose parts. For example, you can sort bigger pieces (like cubes) into the basket or smaller pieces (like beads) into a tray.
-
Use the different loose parts to create and decorate the Christmas tree.Tip: you may want to prompt your child such as “can you fit 10 cubes in the bottom of the tree?” or “how many baubles do you think fit on each branch?”
