Ocean in a jar - waves of colours

What you'll need:

  • A large clear jar or bottle, with a lid that can be tightly shut
  • blue food colouring
  • Water
  • Cooking oil
  • Funnel
  • Duct tape and glitter (optional)

What to do:

  1. Fill the plastic bottle or jar one-third full with water.
  2. Add a couple of drops of food colouring to the water.
  3. Using the funnel, fill the remainder of the jar with oil, leaving a bit of space at the top.
  4. Add glitter if you want.
  5. Screw the lid or cap on tightly and secure with tape if desired.
  6. Turn and shake the bottle and watch what happens!
