Sensory path

Share

Create a path of different sights, textures and sounds for your child to wonder at and explore.

Skills and benefits:

  • Physical movement
  • Sensory exploration
  • Balance
  • Spatial awareness
  • Cause and effect

What you'll need:

  • Laminating sheets or thick sandwich bags
  • Masking tape
  • Recycled or craft materials such as ribbon, bubble wrap, paint, felt, pom poms, leaves and flowers

What to do:

  1. Fill each laminating pouch or bag with desired materials. If using laminating pouches, seal the edges with an iron or hair straightener so they don't leak.
  2. Use masking tape to secure pouches onto the floor in a line or pattern.
  3. Encourage your baby to move themselves to each different pouch.
  4. Toddlers might enjoy numbers, letters or shapes being added for them to find, or playing jumping games across the path.
