Playdough – make your own fun
Playdough helps to build fine motor skills. All that squishing, rolling and flattening is perfect to help develop the muscles in your child’s hands so one day they can do things like paint and hold a pencil. Playdough is also the perfect medium for imaginative play and making playdough involves maths and science skills as children learn, measure, mix and make colours.

What you'll need:
- 1 x packet of rice flour
- 5 x tsp of oil
- 1 x packet of corn starch
- 5 cup of salt
- 3 x Tbsp. of cream of tartar
- 3 cups hot water
- Food colouring
What to do:
- Mix all the dry ingredients together.
- Add the vegetable oil then add the food colouring to one cup of water
- Pour the flour into a bowl and mix in the water, oil and food colouring mixture
- Add the rest of the water, a little at a time to get the right consistency. You may not need all the water.
- Store the playdough in a large plastic snap-lock bag or airtight container.
This recipe can be cooked. Just place all ingredients into a pot and add all the water, cook over a low heat for 3 to 5 minutes until the dough comes away from the sides of the pot. Turn out onto a lightly floured board or bench and knead until smooth.
